Mission Statement

What is Space Station Ian Fleming?
Space Station Ian Fleming is a correspondence
chapter of STARFLEET, The International Star Trek
Fan Association, Inc. It began it STARFLEET service
as a shuttle in 1997, STARFLEET terminology for a
chapter-in-training, sponsored by the USS Equinox.

What is a Correspondence Chapter?
A correspondence chapter differs from a meeting
chapter in that it does not generally conduct regularly
scheduled meetings. It is not bound by geographic
restrictions and may recruit members from anywhere in
the world. Although members may meet to pursue special
projects or interests, primary communication is
conducted through correspondence, either electronic
or postal.
Why are we a Correspondence Chapter?
The Ian Fleming was chartered in N.Berwick, ME in 1998
with the original intent of filling a need for Star Trek
Fans who simply do not have the time or resources to
attend meetings. At present there are Ian Fleming crew
members residing in Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont and
Massachusetts. In addition to overcoming travel
complications, another need soon became evident, those
of whom we affectionately call our closet Trekies.
Our chapter allows those who enjoy the Star Trek
experience, to do so, without the stigma that
sometimes unfairly gets attached to the term,
Star Trek fan.

James Bond in Star Trek.
What are our Activities?
The primary function of the Ian Fleming
is to provide its members with a medium to enjoy
the Star Trek experience.
Some of our members enjoy costuming, karyoke,
white water trips, hockey, or just enjoying each
others company at a bar-b-que or other social
gatherings, like renn faires and sci-fi conventions.
Through our Newsletter, which is published quarterly,
called "Moonraker", our fictional story line is
this: We are an Intelligence Space Station based
in a classified area of Federation space near the
Klingon border on a re-fitted Alamo Class Defense
Outpost, called Space Station "Ian Fleming" (the
creator of James Bond). With movement capabilities,
and a Federation Phasing Cloaking Device, the
Station can randomly changes its location to insure
secrecy because of the sensitivity of both the
research taking place there and the information
stored there. Alamo Class outposts are capable of
withstanding a tremendous amount of punishment
while delivering powerful offensive blows.
It is from our Station that alot of the fictional
story writing of Region 15 originate.
But in the real world....
As a correspondence chapter, Space Station Ian Fleming's
community is really the entire world but concentrates its
efforts within the geographical area called Region 15 of
Starfleet (ME,NH, VT, MA, CT, RI). The ship lends its
support to charities in many areas outside its home port,
including fundraising and assistance efforts benefiting
the New England Deaf Camp in Lebanon ME. The Ian Fleming
also gets involved with projects and activities on other
ships. Crewmembers frequently travel many miles to lend
a hand or establish a presence at a variety of events
sponsored by area STARFLEET chapters. The Ian Fleming
also coordinates numerous activities that bring neighbor-
ing STARFLEET ships together in the chapter's home area.

Here on the Ian Fleming we have many diverse talents and interests.
With that in mind we try to cater to as many of our members needs as we possibly can.
Our intellectual interest is just as diverse as our activities. In addition to our Star Trek passions, we enjoy James Bond, X-files, Paramount Gossip, 1950's Sci-Fi and the paranormal to just name a few. Whatever your interests, our main goal here on the Ian Fleming is to have fun and we would like for you to be a part of it. If you have any question at all please don't hesitate to ask by emailing us.
