Bio-Domes

The Principle biological research Facilities onboard Space Station Ian Fleming is called the Bio-Domes. There are two Bio-Domes located fore and aft of the Space Station. Unlike the Promenade decks which use holographic images to portray alien wildlife, the specimens contained within these bio-domes are very real. Some species are quite dangerous and are to be cared for and handled only by the biology specialists assigned to the station.

The primary reason for the bio-domes is to help facilitate the research that Starfleet Intelligence Medical and R&D Departments conduct for new advances in anti-toxins and other possible resources for field agents.

The Bio-Domes are divided up into two distinct sections, The Eco-System Section and the Containment Section. On the outside ring of the facility there are eight types of planetary Eco-Systems for various class Planets. The environments are as follows: Arctic, Temperate, Jungle, Arid, Ocean, Volcanic, Zero-G and Special. The inner ring of the facility has eight Containment areas which house the life forms when not in the Eco-System Areas. In the center of the facility is the Aviary which house the life forms that fly.

The Bio-domes are designed to be both functional and esthetically pleasing to the eye. Corridors and observation platforms are located throughout each Bio-dome with good views for research and observation. The holding areas themselves are environmentally controlled to mimic and maximize the life forms natural habitat. Containment fields are used to keep life forms separate from each other and from those who wish to observe them. Below the controlled environments is research labs and holding cells for each life form. In case of emergencies such as Bio-Dome systems failure and Station hull breaches, the life forms are automatically transported into small escape pods for later retrieval.
