History
of the
Katahdin Marauders

The Early Years

In the early years of World War III (also known as Colonel Green's War), mass destruction on a large scale took place, as a madman by the name of Col. Green attempted to conquer Earth's population by use of nuclear weapons. Though Col. Green was defeated and killed later in that War, the devastation was too much for the Earth to recover from. Earth's largest cities were smothering ruins, its economy was in a shambles, pestilence and food shortages were rampant. The Earth was plunged into a post-atomic dark age.

It was during this time period that groups of survivors settled into various areas of the world that were life sustainable. These groups set up individual settlements, with each establishing its own style of governing.

One such group, a group of marine veterans settled into the State of Maine in the northeast part of what was then called the United States of America. The settlement established itself near a mountain called Katahdin and the founders of that settlement were able to work in harmony with one another. From their mountain fortress they were able to successfully live and defend themselves throughout those perilous times.

After First Contact and mankind began rebuilding itself, contact was reestablished with the various settlements including that of Katahdin and a new cooperative government began to form. In time the military branch of what was then called United Earth Forces was formed. What soon became apparent to the organizers of that time was the Katahdin settlers had outstanding organization and high loyalty to one another. Thus the settlers were allowed to remain together as a mercenary unit and were called the Katahdin Marauders.

The Romulan War

Despite the fact that the Romulan War was primarily fought by fleets of starships in deep space, marines and volunteers during that time period were used to garrison supply depots, listening posts, and various other facilities. The Katahdin Marauders were no exception. They were assigned various posts throughout the war and performed admirably. In fact they became known as one of the best field Special Operation units in the service, scoring the most kills of Romulan ships during the war and received numerous citations and commendations despite being a volunteer unit.

The Four Years War

When hostilities broke out with the Klingon Empire, the Mauraders was assigned to protect some of the most sensitive and strategically important facilities in the Federation.

One such facility was the supply depot on Geo III which was vital to the Federation War effort. A large Klingon task force of five capital ships and other support craft including landing craft attacked the depot and laid siege to the facility. The Marauders in support of Starfleet Marines managed to shoot down two of the Klingon capital ships and held out despite repeated attempts by Klingon ground forces to take the facility. The remnants of the Klingon task force withdrew when Federation reinforcements arrived. So outstanding was the Katahdin Marauders bravery, that it is the only Federation civilian unit that the Klingons have honored with song.

The Cardassian Conflict

The Katahdin Marauders once again answered the call during this conflict and were assigned to do the thing that they do best, Special Operations duty on the front lines. Time and time again they would repel or disrupt would-be Cardassian invaders, proving once again at being one tough nut to crack. In fact during the brief Federation/Cardassian alliance it was admitted by a high Cardassian offical that targets were avoided if it was found out that the Marauders were protecting it.

The Mauraders Today

Throughout its long and illustrious history the Katahdin Marauders have proven itself as one of the best mercenary units in the known galaxy. In fact many hostile governments have come to regard the Katahdin Mauraders as a unit worth avoiding, thus adding to this units legendary status.

Presently the Marauders reside at Space Station Ian Fleming, the Headquarters of the Federation Intelligence Agency and Starfleet Intelligence. This ultra-sensitive facility serves as a spearhead for covert activities throughout known space. The Katahdin Marauders mission is simple, wreck havoc with the enemies of the Federation. Something that they have done very well in the past and will continue to do in the future.
